For Those Biking/Cycling the Coast-to-Coast:

There are several popular versions of bike routes, but bikers/cyclists always seem to find us, using one of the options for walkers or vehicles. Please give us a call on 01947 897242 if you need advice.

For those in vehicles:

​

From the north take the A171 and follow the signs to Glaisdale.
From the south take the A169 and follow the signs for Grosmont, Egton, then Glaisdale. 
On entering Glaisdale, drive through the village until you reach the crossroads at the War Memorial. Then follow the road signposted 'Glaisdale Dale Only'.  Pass the church (St. Thomas C of E)) and drive along the Dale until you pass a large house with three big cream-coloured double garage doors on your left (The Cottage). After a further 100 yards, you will see 'Broom Cottage' also on the left, and immediately after, a cattle grid which brings you into our property.

We are not easy to find after dark, as there are no bright lights on our very rural roads. The entrance to our property is opposite the school drive. However, the school is not obvious as it is up the side of a hill, but there are bold diagonal yellow lines on the pavement at the bottom of the school drive, just opposite our drive where you will see our small sign on the stone gatepost that says Red House Farm.

**Before you set off or while on the way, if you find your 'sat nav' is taking you a different way than the one we have described, please phone us, and hopefully, we can help you find us. 'Sat navs' that use post code input can take you different routes from the one we have described, because in Glaisdale Dale there are 6 miles of farms that all have the same post code and the satellites use an average which, in our case, is about 1 mile west of where we are actually located.

**To get the best map, distances and travel times, type 'Red House Farm Glaisdale' into Google Map Directions. Remember to put the 'Glaisdale' after Red House Farm as there are several Red House Farms in local dales.

**By the way, all the mobile networks work in our area, but they all have different dead spots, so if you try to phone and if you cannot get a signal, try moving a few metres and you very likely will be able to pick up your signal.

For those Using the Train

If you want to arrive by train, the station is a one-mile walk uphill to Red House Farm (Phone us before you book--we may be able to pick you up at the station.). https://www.thetrainline.com/stations/glaisdale and https://www.eskvalleyrailway.co.uk/

 

For those walking Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast  (West to East): 

 

Option 1: Most Popular:

Walk through 5-bar gate coming off Glaisdale Moor track above Red House, and continue towards Glaisdale village a few metres until bridleway crosses track. Take bridleway gate to right and go south across field--no defined path through field, but (school) chimney will appear as you start downhill. Follow stone wall towards school, then go through field gate. Take immediate left towards school.  Carry on down School/Red House path. Take right turn down school drive and cross dale road and go over cattle grid gate to Red House. The entrance to our property is opposite the school drive, and you will see the bold zigzag yellow lines on the pavement at the bottom of the school drive. On our stone gatepost you will see our small sign that says Red House Farm.

Option 2. For Purists or for those who want to stop at VILLAGE SHOP ( 01947 897244):  Glaisdale village winds down the hill like a ribbon (about a mile from top to bottom). Walkers come in via Hall Lane at the top of the village and walk down the hill past the village shop towards the pub and railway station at the bottom of the village. **Midway down is the crossroads at the War Memorial and the Glaisdale Dale Road. We are only about 1/4 mile west of  the War Memorial on the Dale Road.**  When you reach the crossroads at the War Memorial, follow the road signposted 'Glaisdale Dale Only'.  Pass the church and walk along the Dale until you pass a large house with three big cream-coloured double garage doors on your left (The Cottage). After a further 50 yards, you will see 'Broom Cottage' also on the left, and immediately after, a cattle grid which brings you into our property, opposite the bold yellow zigzag lines on the pavement. A small sign on our stone gatepost says Red House Farm. Sorry, but as we are close enough to the walk, we do not offer a pickup service.

Option 3 (Shortest, goes right by our house,but misses out part of moor and top of village):Come down off Glaisdale Rigg above Postgate Farm via the well-defined track that comes down to meet Glaisdale Dale Road. Continue toward village (eastward) for about a mile. The entrance to our property is opposite the school drive, and you will see the bold zigzag yellow lines on the pavement at the bottom of the school drive, then look to the right and you will see our small sign that says Red House Farm.
